Legacy Oak Ranch Lake Overview

Location:
About 1 hour from Austin, Legacy Oak Ranch is home to one of central Texas’ most exceptional private water fisheries, The Lake at Legacy Oak.

Lake Features:
  • Size: The lake covers approximately 20 acres of water, making it a prime destination for bass anglers.
  • Depth: The lake has a maximum depth of almost 30 feet, with much of the lake being over 6-7 feet deep, providing great opportunities for fishing year-round.
  • Structure: The lake is rich with structure, including:
    • Island
    • Shallow bays
    • Cattails around the perimeter
    • Deep flats and drop-offs
    • Channels
    • Submerged and emergent timber
  • Forage: The lake hosts abundant forage, such as copper nose bluegill, minnows, frogs, and crayfish, supporting a healthy bass population.
  • Spring-fed: A unique feature of this lake is its spring-fed nature, ensuring a relatively constant water level, even in the summer heat and drought periods common to Central Texas.
Boating and Access:
  • Boat Launch: The lake has a small dirt boat ramp, suitable for bass buggies, kayaks, and small aluminum boats (up to 14 feet). Launching a full-sized bass boat is not recommended due to the size of the ramp.
  • Boat Availability: A flat-bottom boat is available for PWF members to use.
  • Future Improvements: Plans are in place to add a rock ramp by Spring 2025 to further enhance access.
  • Access Considerations: The area to turn around at the boat launch may not accommodate long wheel-based trucks with trailers. You might want to back down the hill with your trailer or walk down to evaluate the area before launching.
Fishing Requirements and Guidelines:
  • Bass Harvesting: Do not dispose of bass on the property. If needed, arrangements can be made with the owner to leave cull bass in fish baskets at the large dock.
  • Trash: Take all trash with you. Clean your boat of all trash, including used soft plastics, and make sure to lock the gate when you leave.
  • Protected Species: No targeting of crappie or sunfish. All sunfish, bluegill, perch, and crappie must be released.
  • Zebra Mussels: To prevent the spread of invasive species, please thoroughly remove weeds from your trailer and ensure all livewells or standing water in watercraft are emptied and dried before arrival.

Special Note:
While the lake is primarily for PWF members, there is an exception for one additional landowner who has limited access to the lake. Please respect all rules to maintain the exceptional quality of this fishery.

Additional Considerations:
  • Media Restrictions: Members are not allowed to post videos of the lake or property on public media platforms without written consent from the owner.

Summary:
Legacy Oak Ranch’s 20-acre lake is a bass angler's paradise, featuring excellent structure, forage, and a spring-fed system that ensures a steady water level. While access is limited to smaller boats, it provides a unique opportunity to fish in an exceptional private water fishery. Please adhere to the rules, including proper bass handling, trash disposal, and respecting the owner's privacy, to ensure continued access to this amazing lake.

Requirements

  • To prevent the spread of zebra mussels and invasive aquatic vegetation, please be certain to remove any weeds from your trailer, and that all live wells or any standing water in watercraft you plan to launch has been thoroughly removed and the interior of watercraft dried before arriving onsite. Any violation of this requirement will lead to permanent revocation of fishing privileges for this exceptional bass fishery.

  • No posting of videos of the lake or property on public media platforms without written consent of owner.

  • MANDATORY!!! Remove all bass 14" and under at this site. Report the total number of each species removed to the club office through the online reservation system after your outing.

  • Do not dispose of bass on site. If you prefer, with prior notice, arrangements may be made with the owner to leave your cull bass in fish baskets hanging from the end of the large dock.

  • Take all trash with you. Clean boat of all trash including your used soft plastics and remember to close and lock the gate.

  • No targeting crappie or sunfish. All sunfish/bluegill/perch and crappie must be released.
