The day started with plans to fish Tara Lake in Muenster. This would’ve been only our second trip to Tara and neither of us remembered much about the lake. Upon arrival and once we crossed over the creek crossing it was solid mud all the way down to the lake. If I had to guess, the lake is about 4-6 feet ABOVE pool. Where the pictures below were taken, I’m willing to bet it was all under water in the past 3-5 days. In typical Massey/Jordan fashion we got the truck and trailer stuck about 50 yards from the lake. After finally getting both the truck and boat unstuck we said nope. It only got muddier the closer you got to the water. You can see from the pictures that the club boat was about 50 yards from where the water started.
So, after a phone call to Cole we were rebooked to here at Briar Branch. No issues driving down to the lake or launching after the recent rains. On the water around 8:45 or so. The water was extremely muddy which was kind of expected after all the rains. I’d say about 6-12 inches of visibility. The lake is full and water was running over the spillway over by the dam. The grass is already alive and well. Fishing anything other than weedless worms was pretty difficult. By summer, the grass will be thick. 28 fish were caught in total almost all on red wacky worms and all were about 14-16”. Briar Branch saved the day!!
