Took my son and his buddy out for a couple days of fishing and lodging at Hat & Star. First off the lodge is perfect for up to 3-4 people, it's a nice little place with fridge, microwave, coffee maker, covered porch, grill, and a nice detached bathroom with shower.
We arrived wednesday 3/15 just after sunrise and had some decent success throwing 3” plastic swimbaits on jig heads. We caught around 6-8 fish with 3 of those around 3-4 pounds and 4 dinks which were transferred to the small pond.
The following morning started much of the same with a few decent 3 and 4 pounders on plastics. The rain started around noon so we got off the water and had lunch and a short nap. Knowing the big storm was going to be rolling through we decided to leave the boat on the trailer and hit the banks. This is where the fishing picked up. After about an hour I hooked a nice 5 pound fish and shortly later followed that up with a 7 pounder. Then a couple hours later I hooked into a fish of a lifetime, a freaking 11 pound 10 ounce GIANT! All caught on a big plastic worm.

Congratulations Billy! What a magnificent fish that is. Not to mention the “small 5 and 7 pounders”...ha!
