Had such a fun day at Malouf last week, I wanted to see what it had in store again. It didn’t disappoint with 42 total fish from noon to 4:45pm. Air temp was 53 degrees with NE 12-15mph winds, a bit colder than I was anticipating. I didn’t feel like using the anchor much so opted to drift with the wind and slow the drift with the trolling motor. Had a few hits on the swim frog early, but most were short strikes or tail slaps. Switched to the swimbait and started getting a few on the pass down the west side. Went all the way back up to the NE side and drifted the entire way. Had some really nice blow ups and fish on the frog and consistent action on the swimbait. Most fish on NE side were caught near the power lines. Almost all fish were caught in 2-4 feet of water and everything close to the shore. Good visibility and was really fun to watch at least half the strikes as you could see the fish waking towards it. Worked both sides again before heading out. Never had more than a 10 minute lull without a bite and had two separate times of three fish on three casts. Of course had to make a few casts left of the ramp before I left and caught one.
Another really fun day at malouf. Pretty standard size day there with most fish between 1-2.5lbs. They did make some quick runs after hitting the swim bait, almost “snook like” where i had to reel as fast as I could simply to keep tension on them. Didn’t even fish the trees all day as I had so much fun fishing the shallows.
