Pam and I had the pleasure of fishing Hickory Creek Ranch on Wednesday. The weather was warming, but blowing pretty good out of the south. Outside temps were in the 60’s and 70’s and it was cloudy. The wind was in the single digits until around 11AM and then it really started blowing – 15-17 MPH with gusts to 24. We wanted to head out to the back lake to take advantage of the tree coverage, but we were having success on the front lake even though the wind made for inefficient fishing. The water in the big lake was 55 to 57 F and stained with viz at 12 IN. 

We managed to land 31 bass and 2 crappie. We harvested 13 bass – but the 18 that we returned were really nice with 3 in the 4lb class and 4 in the high-3’s and several others between 3 and 3 ¼. The harvesting and management has really improved the overall catch here! Most effective baits were: T-Rig, Underspin, & Drop Shot. We patterned them with dragging baits offshore in 7 FOW approximately in line between the island and the owner’s home. Another pattern was a reaction bite in the shallow flat in the SE corner.
