Fellow member John Shepard and I arrived to fish Lake Raymond just before noon and were fortunate to be assisted by Raymond in launching the bigger of the two Jon boats.
Skies were mostly clear with a good north wind that diminished through the afternoon. Water was slightly stained (2’ visibility) and 62f.
John and I caught just over a couple of dozen bass apiece, as well as a few nice size crappie. The bass ranged in size from dinks to 19.5” (see pic of the biggest one) and a number of the females were starting to show big bellies. We probably had a dozen bass over 14”.
Most of the action was between the bank and 20ft of water depth. Top lures were a chatterbait, med diving crank bait, rattle trap and a spinner bait). Bite was pretty much on from noon to 3pm, then an other spurt from 4-5pm. Tried throwing topwater from 5 to dusk but no significant takers (bite had pretty much died).
Raymond helped us pull the big jon* up on the bank at the end of the great day! We thanked him and asked him to thank Mr. Ernie for allowing us the pleasure of fishing on his ranch.
Traffic was awful heading back to west Houston on the Gulf Freeway so we took a detour into Pearland to try Killen’s Burger joint! Highly recommend!
* We found a small leak in the Jon boat and used a cup to bail out some of the water once. Mentioned to Raymond and he is going to fix the issue.
Cheers
