Pam and I had the pleasure of checking out Cassidy Farms for the first time on Saturday. Overall we ended up with a quality day, especially for December. We landed 32 largemouth and 3 huge crappie. Almost all of the bass were between 2 ¼ and 3 ¼ lbs. Maybe 2 dinks. Weather was mostly mid-50’s, overcast, stiff breeze from the north – just a raw, cold day on the water. Water temps were mid-50’s, the lake is still probably 3 ft low and the visibility was about 24 in.

Cassidy is bowl shaped and fairly shallow with vegetation covering the floor of the lake – for us that meant cleaning off the black, decayed vegetation off our lures on almost every cast. The challenge was that the bass were holding right on the bottom in 9FOW and they wouldn’t chase anything. So, our only success was doing our best to manage a bait on the bottom – just crawling it along with lots of long pauses. When you could manage a presentation before too much moss was on it and without too much of a bow in your line from the wind – you were rewarded, big time! We tried a lot of tactics, but a T-Rigged Keitech or a C-Rigged Power Worm were really the only thing that worked. Cassidy is a great addition to the club and we look forward to going back!
