Reservation Date : 10/29/2022 All Day -
Total Fish/Sizes : 21 - Biggest 9 lbs 4 oz. & rest 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 lbs
Lures Used : Primarily Swim Bait & Ned Rig

Mike and I fished Saturday afternoon from 12 to 6:30.  It was overcast and chilly.  Wind was out of the north all afternoon.  Pretty light wind when we arrived, but picked up later on, but no white caps.  Water temperature was 63-64 degrees, water visability was right at 4’.  Lake level is down about 2’.  We caught 21 fish.  Mike caught a great 9 lbs 4 oz on a swim bait (see pic).  All the rest were 2 ¼ to 4 ½ pounds, of which 8 of the bass were 4 to 4 ½ lbs (see pic of one). No dink.  Also caught a big tilapia (see pic) on a big spinnerbait.  First time on a private water lake for us.  All the fish were caught in deep water except one right at the end of the day caught on a frog coming off the lilly pads.  Had a great talk with Joe early in the atfernoon.  He is an awesome landowner who really cares about the lake and developing the fishing and property.  The boat ramp is great. Made launching and recovering our two small boats pretty easy.

I wonder if thst isn’t the same talapia me and Tri Vo caught (seperate trips a few days apart). I never knew they got that big. I told Joe that day. We also wondered since that AA has 30’+ depths if it couldn’t survive a winter. The one I caught was that big and on a good size crank.

They overwinter in Florida.  I have some old timers at our lake that say they’ve heard of some making it in select years at various lakes in TX, but once the water gets below 55, they slow down considerably and even if they ‘live’ the damage done from not being able to feed or move eventually kills them.  They are stocked at 4-8” and I have some that have grown in excess of 3.5lbs this year from aggressive feeding.  They grow super fast even without feeders. It would be a disaster if they did start to make it though as they will outbreed the lake.  It only works in places like El Salto because they are constantly harvesting.

That makes sense, those big ones in AA may need to come out if they are whacking Bass lures. The one I caught was hooked outside the lip. I figured maybe the crank got too close to its nest. The one above clearly got that spinner bait in its mouth. I think they are vegetarian. Don't know if they eat bugs, plankton, small fish, etc

Once they get to size, they will eat anything they can, but are ultimately limited by the size of their mouth.  Steve and I were in Mexico and a guy caught a near 6lb tilapia that smashed a 10XD Crankbait.
