First time for Pam and I to visit Sandy Creek Ranch – won't be the last. Easily accessible and beautiful ranch. We fished the majority of the time on the “main” lake but also ventured down to the back lake for about 1.25 hours. Water temps were in the mid-70’s and visibility was about 2FT. Good greenish water tint and mostly dying vegetation around the perimeter.
We landed 33 in the first lake and 17 in the back lake. Most effective lures were: small paddletail on underspin and t-rig curly tail – shad and watermelon/red respectively. We had a feeling we'd be catching a lot of smaller ones so we downsized the swimbait and pretty much only swapped out for a t-rig in the deeper portions of the lake. This kept us busy so we didn't throw a lot of other baits.
Most bites were fish relating to the weed line but also a few good ones out at around 10FOW on the bottom or suspended at around 10FT in 17-18 FOW.
As others have noted, the back lake is chocked full of little ones. But it is a fun, simple diversion.
Great addition to the club!
