Well we didn’t “destroy it” during our first outing since the insane heat wave, but had a great time working out some kinks.  Fishing Tara in Muenster with my reliable friend and fishing buddy, Scott Wheeler, we were on the water by sunrise and worked hard all day.  The lake was lower than expected on the heels of the massive 10-15 inches of rainfall that hit the metroplex and in talking with the owner, he noted they only received about 4” in total that was absorbed by the sun soaked pasture; not allowing for signficant run-off.  The lake ran a warm 78-82 degrees and the bite was a little slow all day.  We caught most of our fish closer to the bank in about 2-4 feet of water, although the bright spot of the day, Scott’s 4 lb-er, was hauled up along the damn next to the concrete outflow in closer to 6 ft of water.  The lake was cloudy and had a green film coating the surface.  We suspected the lake may have turned over.  The fish were popping the surface all day, but had no interest in our top water action.  Slow retrieve with weighted lizards/brush hogs/worm seem to carry the day in terms of our bag production – little surprising, but nothing seem to be chasing…..Cheers

It was still great just to get back out after the long summer heat stroke,
we got in a little practice time.
looking forward to some of those fall temps and all will be well.
thank you again Steve for joining me for a day on the water
it’s always good to wet a line.
