My 5-year-old grandson Cooper and I arrived at Lago Escondido at around 7:00 a.m. . We stayed on the water until it was time to leave at 12:00 p.m. . I wasn't expecting much from the day considering the drought and the heat and a 5-year-old. But Cooper surprised me and wanted to stay on the water the entire time.

Lots of vegetation and the water being down about 10' didn't make the fishing trip any better. The good news is it wasn't a shutout and he got to reel in one of the catches. It was a good memory building opportunity that I wouldn't pass up.

We ended up hot tired and hungry but we were both happy to have done it. We took the two fish home so his brother and parents could see them and if they wanted to, eat them😝
