Fished Hickory Creek with my son and my brother on Saturday 7/2. We drove in from south of Houston, so we didn't get on the water until around 8am. Weather was cloudy with scattered thunderstorms. We got on a top water bite early using poppers. Productive areas were mainly closer to the dam and the two shallow coves. Especially the one on the southeast side of the lake with all the wood. We caught a few fish around the island area, but it wasn't as good as the other side of the lake. When the top water bite slowed down we had good luck with 3.75” swimbaits w/ underspin as well as Texas rig craw. It started raining pretty hard right around lunch so we took a break and went to Mimsy’s Craft Barbecue for lunch. It was excellent. We were back on the water around 2pm and fished until about 4:30, mainly focusing on the brush piles and offshore area around the dam with lipless cranks. We didn't keep track of how many we caught, but it was for sure over 50 with only 5 cull bass. Most were in the 2-3lb range with biggest fish 4lb 15oz. We took home 8 big crappie for dinner. We didn't specially target any crappie this time, those are just ones that decided to eat bass baits. This lake is great. I've never fished it in the summer time but it seems to be just as productive as it was in the spring time. Thanks to the property owner and PWF for an awesome day.
