Pam and I had the fortune to fish Hill Country Ranch while we were visiting this area of TX. Despite the afternoon heat and warm (hot) breeeze, the morning was very comfortable and overcast! This is a beautiful ranch and the shore amenities are great for taking a break and enjoying lunch, etc. The lake, like all in the area, is extremely low. I don't know how low, since this was our first visit, but really low. We used the club boat and hiked it down and up the ramp with little trouble. All that being said – the action was very solid in the AM and remained steady enough to keep us after it into the heat of the day. We landed 55 including 40 < 14IN removed and 15 returned. Of those we had 2 over 5 and 3 over 4 and 3 over 3. The grass was thick and growing out to 10FT deep with very clear water at 8 or 9FT visibility. Working anything through the grass was almost impossible – had to either burn something over the top or concentrate off the weed line in the deeper areas. The swim jig with a paddletail trailer was really the main weapon but the DD CB accounted for a couple of good ones. What a fun day in the Hill Country!
