Scott Balch and I fished Double A Lake Saturday April 30th

We started at sunrise and fished until about 1:30.  Surface water temp was about 70, but as deep as the lake is I'm sure water temps are much lower at 35’. Scott and I both started with top water lures. Scott with a Whopper Plopper and I started with my hollow body frog. The lake has wed/slime around most of the lake from about 5 yards to about 20 yarda. There are pockets of open water behind some of the edges of the weeds on one spot where you can almost cas t all the way to the bank. Scott managed one fish on the WP and I didn't have any interest in my poor little frog at all. We were both surprised at the lack of interest in top water lures.

I switched to a white spinner bait and Scott pitched a water melon/red fleck senko. My first catch of four was a healthy 18” girl (I did’t have my scale) that had spawned. Like all fish I've caught at AA the fish Saturday we good fighters. I caught a 22” lady at the first brush pile to the left of the boat ramp.  She was by fisherman's estimate about 4.5 lbs.

In the meanwhile Scott was catching fish in various spots around the lake To 4.5 lbs. Scott called me to let me know he was catching on the Senko so I switched. As I went past the next brush pile I hooked into one last AA fighting fish. This one kept pulling drag giving me the fight that made the whole day worthwhile. She turned out to be another pretty 22” girl that had not spawned. I estimate her to be maybe 6 to 6.5 lbs.

Scott made one last loop around the lake after I had given up and caught his last 3 fish. We never could establish a pattern nor could we find one lure that kept working. Fish were caught all over the lake.

It's a Great Lake and we had a visit from owner Joe. He’s a great guy and is doing all he can to grow big bass for us.
