My brother, Dale Stagg and I went fishing for the day at Bennett Lake and had a beautiful day of fishing. We started around 9:30 amfishing, since it is a long drive to get to this lake and finished a bit after 7pm. The water was 68 degrees, and the water was very clear. As others have said, the vegetation was quite thick on the Northern end of the lake from the boat ramp, but the South end had much less vegetation. Even in water 20 foot in depth, the vegetation reached the surface but working a whacky rig in the voids in the vegetation produced fish. Both of use used the whacky rig exclusively for the day with great results. We tried a few other lures, but the whacky rig was the ticket to a great day.

I ended up with 47 bass and 24 of those were culled. Dale ended up with 24 bass and 14 culled. That comes out to 71 bass total and 38 bass culled.

The road getting to the lake is getting bad with some deep ruts and have gotten worse since the last trip to this lake several months ago. There hasn’t been any rain in a while so wasn’t bad enough to get stuck, but a truck is needed since many other vehicles would bottom out even trying to straddle the ruts. The road sure needs work or will get impassable in the future.

This is a beautiful lake and is a great asset to the club. Cell service is terrible at best if needed. Rock ramp is usable for small boats or kayaks. Most all fish were caught in the vegetation near the bank and a few of the culls cleaned showed a few having eggs still but looks like most have finished spawning.
