For reasons left unsaid, we got to the lake a little after 10:00 for a full day’s fishing.. Beautiful day. Warming, clear and lite winds. We gear up, shove off and as my buddy is messing around with his equipment, I make my first cast…. Wham, a 6 plus on a big old Spro Rat. The Good! Just a few minuets later I have switched to a wide bodied crank and …. Wham, fish on. A long run, then under the boat and back out right beside us. I feel her rising and she’s airborn, completely out of the water. I have one double digit bass to my credit and this is the biggest bass I ever had on! My buddy and I gasp and fall back in our seats as she soars in front of us. Something is wrong, my crank is also flying! Fish off and as that bowling ball splashes down my heart sinks to my toes. I can’t even hear my buddy try to console me. How do you lose a fish on two big trebles? Then, like bad Karma, the clouds gather, wind builds and the lake is white capping…. YOU DO NOT LOSE THE FISH OF A LIFE TIME! The (very) Bad. Later, after lunch my buddy boats a real nice fish. As big or bigger than the first of the day, but this is not the short fat bowling balls we have been catching. This is longer sleeker. Yes, big but different, almost slab like in appearence. The Ugly… but pretty as well! The tale of three fish. Oh and Joe came down to talk. Nice guy and he makes sure his fish have plenty to eat. Catch one and you have your proof.
