A long-time friend joined me for a fun afternoon of fishing this last Sunday out at Timber lake near Sulphur Bluffs. It’s an extraordinary lake full of standing trees, and not like any lake either of us has fished before. We were on the water at ~1:45 with water at 62F that rose to 66F by ~6:30. The first couple hrs were relatively hot with blue sunny skies until sundown. We did not know what to expect but the lake turned out to be fairly easy to navigate through areas of standing timber. What a beautiful venue to fish…..I’m sure we alarmed all the fish in the lake of our presence fumbling around in the boat for the first hour... Still, we found fish out in the middle of the timbers and across from the boat launch area on the dam. Starting out, we were unable to set the hook, going 0-6 on all the first bites: 3 looked to be <14” + 3 looked like good size ones (~3lbs) that shook their hooks jumping out of the water. After whiffing on a first go-round, we decided to take a break to cool off back at fish camp and then went back to fishing from ~4:00 to 6:30 when we were able to catch 8 LMB on TRs and chatter baits in a short time as the evening progressed, with 5 between 2.2 to 3.3lb. All and all, it was a great day catching a very nice ratio of larger fish at Timber Lake with my buddy Jim.

Timber is one of my favorite lakes. Glad to hear you got after ‘em, even if some of them got away. This lake used to fish great but has slowed for me in the last few years. I still go back there occasionally becuase it is such a nice property. Thanks for the report.
