This was my second time fishing the "new" Deer Trail. The old lake used to be one of my favorites. I think this is one of the prettiest lakes in the club.

Three of us fished all day. It was cold (40's) and windy (15 - 25mph) until about 3:00 pm. The wind laid down, the skies cleared and the temps came up.

Despite the change in weather, we caught fish fairly consistently all day. 42 total with 7 culls. Last year, my buddy and I pulled 150 fish to the boat. It was in April and the weather was more favorable, but it does seem like pressure is slowing catch rates on this lake. This is understandable as we were one of the first groups to fish it last year, However, we were surprised that the general weight/length of the fish hadn't seemed to have changed noticeably over the past 11 months. I take this as a reminder  that we have to continue to harvest according to the club guidelines for this lake. If we do, this should be one of the better lakes in the club.

Fish were hanging off the weed lines on the west side of the lake. Along the dam produced a few.  There's also a shallow area in the middle, towards the south end of the lake, that did well. Most of the fish we caught off the bottom. Fish had not yet pushed into the flats and the creek at the south end. They should start spawning in the next few days as the weather warms up for good.

Great place. Go fish it if you haven’t had a chance too yet.
