My wife and I stayed at the cabin overnight right next to the lake. Excellent place to stay with all the necessities you will need. Our hosts, owners Herschel and Karen, were incredibly gracious to us, and welcomed us to their farm and lake. We had a great time. We appreciated the entire experience. So much fun.
Great little dock area with the boat in the water already. So that was nice, too. Early morning i fished around the dock and the bank area in front of the cabin, caught about 6 to 10 bass. Then went out on to lake in the boat, and fished down the the lake arm, concentrating on two brush piles, near the north west side. Threw a natural colored, yellowish green trick worm into the most northern brush pile, and may have caught the biggest bass i have ever landed. It was huge...I’m guessing 6 to 8 pounds , since i didnt’ have scales. Nor a camera! Looked to be @ 24 inches. It was a big one. Bigger than my 4 and 5 pounders i have caught in the past. After this, I caught a few more around there, then took a break for lunch. Later , i trailed down the eastern bank on foot after lunch, all the way to end of lake, south...Caught about 12 to 15 througouht the afternoon to dusk., ranging from half pound to pound and a quarter, maybe pound and a half. Oh, and caught a couple of bluegill around the dock too, before we left, using a small white beetlespin. I caught few smaller bass with it too.
I believe i saw some small thredfin, or small shad as well in the lake. Water clarity was good. Several feet down, and a little stained. The many fish around the damn area were not really biting. I tried sight fishing them but couldnt get any interest. So, that’s when i kept going around to the far, eastern side and southward...but found and area that hit the watermelon fluke, really well. So, i stayed with it...
There were plenty of bass in this lake. I saw many, many bass around the edges of the bank, over on the damn side in particular. Getting ready for spawn, I imagine… Did not see any beds, yet. But good numbers of bass in this lake, that is an absolute.
Between the cabin, farm, fishing, and our hosts, i would put this as one of my best experiences in the bass club.
Thank you Karen and Herschel. It was well worth it to make the trip from Houston. I will be back!
