Seven pounder is always a good day

Started about 8AM and caught eight fish. A fourteen inch fish was a really nice healthy fish. We culled two fish and our biggest was 24”+ (with tail squeezed), and weighed right at 7 pounds. It didn’t look like seven pounds, but it was heavy. The moment I thumbed it I was surprised how big her lower lip was. The temp at 8AM was high thirtys and I feel the lake was still asleep most of the day. Water color and clarity was good. I love the islands and the cover on the bank. I mainly threw an 8” weightless Zoom dark lizard, and fished it like a hard-jerkbait, trying to get it to float a couple of feet down with a gentle slow rolling retreive. My go-to is a Senko but it did nada. Much of the lake is only a few feet deep, so I think a “finese” approach is best. I throw a baitcaster; if one can cast a spinning rig very far so as to not disturb some shallow water fish it could be very productive…when the water warms. Black Hat is a nice working ranch which was a pleasure to visit. I’m so glad March is here. I have spent way too much money on lures watching fishing shows this winter. I live in the Granbury-Cleburne area; contact me if you want to fish. I have a fourteen foot Tadpole. Go Ukraine…

How was the water level, were the islands fishable?

Nice report. Black Hat is a great place with a concrete ramp.
