Big fan of this property! The fish are feisty and there are so many unique parts to try and find fish lurking. I arrived early to a ton of fog that cleared pretty quickly – as soon as the sun was well in the sky it was crystal clear and barely a breeze. I only had the half day / AM spot so I wanted to work quickly. I tried throwing bigger swim baits searching for the bigger beasts lurking below but I really didn’t find a pattern until I downsized to 4-6” swimbaits – mostly paddletails with underspins and a Storm WildEye swim shad which caught the beast of the day.

I have only fished here in late spring in late summer so this scene was completely different for me – the lake was at an all time low. I was pretty shocked but it obviously centered the fish in areas that I knew they’d be hiding. If you’ve been here you know the spots with the crazy submerged timber. So after a pass around the lake beating the bank catching a few here and there I headed out to the big submerged timbers and really started to pick up the numbers. I was catching them consistently – every 25 minutes or so would scoop a bass. All very healthy and above the cull line with two that were 4 pounds.

I was getting pretty bold with tossing an open hook into the structure but it kept paying off – I anchored above the structure casting with the wind into the middle of the timber and WHAM she nailed the lure. I felt her tension as she mustve come up from below to hit it and turn right back around diving deeper. You always know it’s going to be a big fish when the bent rod tip starts to do that wobble of resistance! She put up a bigger fight than I expected but fortunately had a net to scoop her. My hunch on her being big was right when I saw the flash of her size underwater before she surfaced. At approximately 22” she filled the net and then some! She nearly swallowed the entire bait – the paddle tail was in her throat and fortunately the hook was in the soft tissue above her throat – dodged a bullet there. My entire fist up to my wrist was in her mouth to retrieve the bait. Such a cool experience! I had her out of the water less than 3 minutes, snapped a photo and video of the weight, and she darted back into the depths. I checked the time and needed to leave so a perfect kicker for the day!

I hope the place gets some good rain soon because I know the Spring bite will really fire up. My goal is to try and come back soon to search for those tanks that are even bigger than this beauty.

As always, thanks PWF for this outstanding spot!

There are definitely some swamp donkeys in those waters.  Nice work!
