Fellow member Clint E. and I fished Double A Lake on an all day reservation on Sunday, March 6th. Clint brought his bass boat, and we were able to put the electronics to good use as there is a lot of structure and 25 to 30 foot water to fish. We fished hard throughout the day and didn’t really figure out what they wanted until we had been out on the lake fishing for a couple of hours into the morning. We caught the majority of our fish in 20 to 25 feet of water and the fish were suspended anywhere from about 8 feet down to 20 feet. Although we caught some on a jerkbait and a lipless trap, the best fish came off the Alabama rig.
My friend Clint is an excellent fisherman and he landed the majority of the fish on the day (we caught about 40 on the day). His best fish went 8.28 pounds followed by a 7.25 pounder and he also caught a whole host of 6+ pound fish. My best two fish went 5.75 lbs and 5.25 lbs and although I was tickled to have caught them they wouldn’t have made our best 5 on the day.
The owner Joe came down around lunchtime and visited with us. We complimented him on his beautiful lake and the really healthy fish in it (all the fish were plump and strong fighters). We also took Joe’s recommendation and went into Wills Point and had a solid lunch at Roth’s. It was a fun trip and Joe is a friendly and personable owner. I would recommend bringing along your electronics to check out all of the structure and deeper water as that seemed to be where the fish were congregated this time. We didn't catch much in shallower portions of the lake although we did try it several times throughout the day.
I will include pictures below of Clint with his 7+ and 8+ pounders. I have also included my two best fish on the day that went 5.75 and 5.25 lbs. Really enjoyed our trip to a great property and a really interesting lake.
