Fellow member John Shepard and I arrived at sunrise and given the stiff prefront wind chose to fish from the bank. We circled the tank several times.

Water temp in the low 60’s when we started and rose to the high 60’s during the course of the day. Water clarity up to 18” in spots. No evidence of bedding yet.

John got off to a quick start and caught 41 for the day. I stubbornly tried a couple of techniques without success and never quite caught up. I managed 21 for the day. Small bucks, which were culled, made up most of the fish that we landed with our biggest 5 @ 1 at 19”, 2 in the 18” range and two in the 17” range.

Of note, we saw the large fish along with a slightly smaller companion, as described by Joshua Massoud last fall, finning at the surface for long periods of time (like a large redfish) three times throughout the day. The big mother tracked around at the surface in the deeper portions of the tank from 7-9am, 11-noon and from 2-3pm. It got close enough that both John and I cast at it, where upon it would pop out of the water and expose it’s silvery side. As near as we can tell it is some sort of a big carp (Carpzilla). I will try to upload a video I shot of the beast! Couldn’t upload the video so here are two screen shots.
