I took advantage of a break in the weather to bank fish Lake TCU for a couple of hours Wednesday afternoon. I was hoping the sun would bring them out of the deeper water and was not disappointed.

I started just after noon with the air temperature 68 and the water temperature 41 at the shore line. Bluebird sky with a gentle north breeze at about 6 mph. The visibility is about 2-3 feet and the water is greenish. There were perhaps 1000 geese on the pond!

I headed to the dam end first and fished the rise from the bottom of the bowl to the shore, missing one and getting one 18”  on a craw colored square bill. The vegetation is submerged but thick and shallow enough to make deep treble hook lures problematic. I worked around the eastern bank to the southern end and again missed one and got one, this time on a paddle tail with willow leaf underspin.

What did not work. Carolina rig, lipless crank, jig/craw, glide bait, swimbait without underspin, jerk bait, Texas rig worm.

No Dub sighting today but the acrobatic airplane show was a great distraction! For those who have not been to Lake TCU, it is an immaculate property well worth the trip.
