I was encouraged to use more crank baits when I fished. I had been mostly using soft plastics. A white lipless bait did the trick. Most of the fish came from the middle  about half way down the lake. The most successful retrieve was to let it sink then pop it off the bottom. A small white fluke also caught a few.
