Headed out to Long Lake this Sunday and caught a nice group of fish including a couple of really good ones. Below is my report:

  1. Hit the lake around 10am, off the water by 4:30pm.
  2. Water temps were 60-62, water was clear up to 5 feet.  Wind was strong out of the South to start, then West, then NW so that was a bit confusing.
  3. I worked the perimeter of the lake a few times but the South end and the Northwest corner were the two places I found fish for the most part.
  4. Nothing on topwater, which was a bit suprising with the clouds and the water clarity.
  5. I wanted to work on two things, flipping cover with a jig and hookset with a dropshot.  I was successful with the latter, but they wanted no part of my green pumpkin finesse jig despite some really good flips/pitches (at least for me).
  6. My largest fish of the day came off some brush with a squarebill in the SW corner in shallow water.  I scored a few bass with squarebill.
  7. Dropshot produced the best.  Bass seemed lethargic but would take a natural looking finesse roboworm pitched to brush or humps.
  8. Near the close of the day, I found a bit of green grass in a small patch on the SE side of the lake in 12-18 foot of water.  I started ripping a chart rattletrap and caught a nice 3 and 4 and a couple of 1’s.
  9. There is a hump on the west bank off the point, a few big rocks, and a different structure points throughout this small lake – quite a bit of personality for 8 acres.
  10.  This lake could probably use some culling next year before next crop of bass comes in.
  11. Spoke with Eric for a long while – such a nice dude and we talked for 45 min about fishing and lakes before it was dark all of a sudden and I needed to head home – another great PWF day!
