Slot Fish
My son and I made our way to Twin Lakes on Saturday. We camped last night on west lake and fished the west lake this morning and caught about 25. All in the 1-3lb range with a couple dinks mixed in. We got on the water at 1st light and the bass were hammering bait right on the shore. We thought shad at first but it was the bluegills they were eating (from what we could tell). I got one on a spook and my son used a white popper and got around 10. I also used a green pumpkin speed worm and just reeled it across the bottom. Also caught a few on a swim jig. Nothing on chatter baits, spinner baits, square bills or swim baits. The fish were all either on the bank or just off in a few feet of water and you would see a wake heading to your bait and then the thump Lots of fun!
We loaded up and made our way to the east lake around noon and caught 2 between noon and 1 pm. Something was up on that lake, maybe turning over? Dirty water and with lots of silt and it had a faint smell. Also, when we’d get some grass on our lures it wasn’t grass but more like black slimy stuff. Lake seemed dead. No signs of bait, fish feeding, nada.
Thought about heading back to west lake but my back and lack of my CPAP machine from camping Saturday night told me to head home. Thankfully my son was wiped too so we threw in the towel.
