Wind was howling 15-20. My TM would barely push me forward and forget about retrieving a hung hook. I’ve fished Triple J 7 or 8 times so know it well. Last time before today I had a 3, 5, and cull in my first 3 casts and had 13 in a little over 3 hours. Never have less than 10 and generally get some decent size. But today the wind was really going and the bass were not relating to wood at all like they normally do. Also, they’ll normally chase a swim bait or underspin swim bait the last hour before sunset but that didn’t happen either. I never even saw any activity from a bass. Tried deeper off the tree line on the left of the launch point and the point across from the launch point as well. I’ve had pretty good luck with a drop shot there when the fish aren’t tight to wood in the past during the heat of the day. Even tried down by the damn although that’s not normally productive but thinking that was out of the wind and current so maybe they were hunkering down there. This lake is small, but it’s rare I don’t at least pull a 4 out of there. I had 20 at the Alvarado lake on Sunday but was targeting some larger bass at Triple J but it was not meant to be. If anyone has ideas about where they go in heavy winds let me know. This is one of the few boats I’d trust in that type of wind. Tried sinkos, rage craw, drop shot, swim bait, trap, Niko wacky, but not to worry I’ll be back. Don’t pass up that first little stump on the left. I’ve pulled a lot of good fish off that stump. .

When I was there a couple of weeks ago, all the bass I caught except 1 were at 2-4 ft of water, sitting in 8-12ft deep water. Oversized Chrome Rattletrap and a wide wobble chartreuse sqbill. There was some light breaching in the middle of the lake. My friend had success on crappie on the timber line on the east bank. And yes, there was a good fish off that stump, but not right on it, itwas 15 yards off it and it ran directly to the middle of the lake once hooked.
The post frontal conditions started around 2pm yesterday I think – so they may have just shutdown for a few hours right after that.
My 2 cents – worth what you paid for it!
