Nice little property with some very friendly bovines. Got on the water at sunrise. Fished this lake in late March so I started off with big black n ugly, no takers. Switched to a chatterbait and caught a couple. Tried a couple worm variations. I never used a ned rig before and so I broke it out. That worked. I was getting smaller fish, but if I got 2 or 3 dinks then I would get a decent fish. Largest on the Ned was 3lb and just before lunch. Took break, the cows came and hung out. The club boat there had a little water in it and the cows were drinking from that boat, kinda funny.
After lunch time to change tactics, tried a deep dive crank. noticed in the deep watere the fish holdong tight to bottom. Crank didn’t produce. I tied on the largest rattle trap I had and figured I would skirt the bottom. First cast I let go all the way down. Soon as I lifted the trap a fish hit the fire out of it, It was a 4lb’er. I was parked in 17’ and throwing over to 12’ and I started jigging the trap down the slope. Caught a few more od decent size, one being a 2 1/4lb crappie ( had a 3 crappie try to eat that 3” trap).
I was over by the white gate and threw a chatterbait at a fence pole by the gate, soon as it cleared the 4.4lb whacked it.
All in all good day, relieved the lake of 28 dinks and had a few good fish, AND saw cows drink from a boat.
Lake is full, water 55 morning and 60 afternoon, clarity about a 18”. This is a lightly turbid lake. It could use a couple brush piles, the main pool 15-17’ water could benifit from them as well as out from the dock area.
There is a plant that grows agaist the shore that as it dies off foats out and sinks to the bottom (2-4 ft water) around the south points, locate those and you can grab a few fish there several times during the day.
Thank you PWF for the opportunities you provide.
