I arrived at Post Oak a little late due to locally heavy fog on the drive but the thick fog gave me hope for an extended topwater bite. No such luck. There was no visible (or audible) activity and I only managed three harvested bass on a stationary Pop-R. Harvestable and stationary became the themes for the day. I only caught two bass on moving lures (squarebill and beetle-spin) and those were in the early afternoon once the fog had lifted and the wind picked up. After striking out along the dam and around the creek channel timber, I finally found some bass in 1-1.5 feet of water adjacent to some reeds. It seemed to be the nursery as all the bass were < 12” and a number were only 6”. The only bait that worked was a lightly weighted 6” trick worm. Once in a while I’d catch a 14-15” bass. The fog lifted and the breeze started to pick up so I toured the lake trying different lures and trying both shorelines and droppoffs. I finally found some clustered near the little bridge and caught my two biggest (16.5” and 17.5”) of the day there, mixed in with still more babies. As the wind continued to pick up, I switched to heavier stick worms cast against the windward banks and caught a mix of 6” – 16” bass before my anchor would no longer hold. I left at 2:45 catching 47 and harvesting 28. Largest bass was a 17.5” one with a distended baseball-sized belly and a mouse tail and tiny feet sticking out of its throat.
The lake is nearly full, appears to have dropped 3-4” recently, little submerged vegetation, water clarity over 2 feet, and temp 63-67 degrees.
Despite the lack of size on this trip, I enjoyed the day of catching in solitude. I’ve caught 7.5# bass in the lake so I know the potential is there.

Of all the Houston area tanks I think this fine property would be a great candidate for a PWF Club cull day/fish fry event!
