Ron Dupree and I had a fun day landing 49 bass at Thorndale Bremmon on the 6th.  The day started cold (38 degrees) and foggy but soon turned bluebird with almost no breeze.  Water temperature started at 58 and reached 67 by 5PM.  The lake is up slightly due to recent rains.

We had a good time catching the bass, but the experience was quite different from our prior trip.  Then, we had a topwater bite and caught most of our fish in one specific part of the lake.  This time there was no visible surface or shallow water activity and the fish were scattered (and suspended).  We observed fish in deeper water on our fishfinder but couldn’t entice a bite from them.  On our prior trip we caught numerous 3-4# bass (along with a bunch of harvested bass).  This time, we only caught two bass as big as 3#.  The prior trip featured a good afternoon bite.  This time 2/3 of the bass were caught before lunch.

By the way, you can get a good lunch at the Meat market just a few minutes away in Thorndale.

Despite the decrease in size, we still had a very enjoyable day.  We caught fish in solitude. The dam and surrounding topography mean that you can’t see much of “civilization” while you are on the lake and the only sounds you hear are wildlife, cattle, the wind moaning in nearby power lines, the occasional car on the road, and gunshots (it was the first day of deep season).  We will be back!
