Had a chance to get to Deer Trail, one of our favorites for good reasons. The vastly improved lake features freshly mowed access, an awesome new concrete boat ramp and great fishing.
Weather was partly cloudy with a slight breeze. Water was perfect with clarity to about 30”, temp 72°. There is a healthy amount of vegetation including water lillies with very little of it topped out – makes for easy navigation.
We caught bass just about everywhere but particularly over submerged brush piles. One in particular (the first one you’ll see going north) held lots of fish. We pulled 8 bass from it included the biggest bass I’ve caught is several years – a beautiful 7 pounder (22.5”). Caught a few on whopper ploppers but best lure there was a Bluegill colored Jackhammer chatterbait.
As always, I can’t wait to go there again.

Wow, great fish! I have only been to Deer Trail twice and ranks as my favorite thus far. It's a good size body of water with healthy fish and I really like the scenery and remoteness. I still need to try Timber next door and hoping to hit it real soon.
