First time out on new lake, The Jordan. As mentioned in a previous report, the gate isn’t opening with the keypad so you need to jump the fence and hit the black button on the other side. The boat is outstanding, albeit storing it along the edge of the property / fence line is a weird placement. Granted, it is deeper water.
Water temp at 67 degrees. Very green, as advertised, so limited visibility. Fished from 7:45am – 4pm, boating 17 LMB and 3 crappie with a couple of LMB throwing the hook before we could land them. Many of the fish looked identical, all in that 1 – 2lb range (no dinks but no monsters either, although one of the fish that threw the hook was going to go at least 3lb as I saw it at the boat).
Since this was a new lake for me, I threw the tacklebox at them to see if I could develop any sort of pattern for the day. Best bets were either moving baits that imitated shad or the tried and true soft plastics (worms, flukes, and creature baits). No action on topwater. Fish were caught all over the lake, except the north end. No luck for us along the dam. As advertised, the lake has very little vegetation or timber so you can throw whatever you want. Most of the lake is 4’ – 8’ but the east bank, near where the boat is stored, seems to shoot down to around 10 – 12’ in some areas with a relatively steep drop off. With limited grass and no timber, outside of the island and a couple of laydowns, there aren’t a lot of obvious areas to target which may explain why we picked up bass all over the lake and never truly in bunches. I could see this lake benefitting from some sunken brush piles that PWF is known to do.
All in all, an enjoyable day on the water. Although a couple of houses are around, once the morning “rush” subsided, it was extremely quiet out there allowing for some “reel” solitude.
