Little back story here: first time to Briar Branch was in April right after a joined the club. The lake was super fishable with about 2-3 foot of grass all the way around it. Killed them and caught good healthy fish. Second trip was around June-July time frame. I returned only to find the main part of the lake fishable due to all the grass that had grown in the creek channel, but still managed to catch a few fish but not like the 1st trip. After reading Scott Quigley’s review from a couple weeks ago, I thought what the heck I’ll try it out again. This is the closest PWF lake to my house other than maybe Beaver.

Arrived at the lake about 6:45 and actually had to wait on sunrise. Once there was light and I could see the lake I noticed that much of the grass in the creek that was there in June-July was gone by about 50% with a good solid 3-4 feet of grass all the way around the lake. Topwater bite was non existent. Switched to a chartreuse and white chatterbait and got probably 10-15 fish anywhere from the 1-2 pound range. Worked my way around the lake before going up in the little creek channel and switching to a chartreuse and white spinnerbait. The  majority of my fish came within here with the wind blowing into the channel. The fish the came out of the channel were in the 2-2.5 pound range and were caught just right outside the grassline. These fish fought like they were 3-5 pounds. The majority of the fish I caught were over a pound and a handful were over two. There is grass in the lake, but it is very, very fishable. I only had to lift my pedal drive in my kayak up a couple of times to get grass off of it. All in all a great day at Briar. This lake is definitely back on my list. Don’t think twice about the grass. Its just the right amount to provide good vegetation for the fish.

Last few weeks the top water bite has been off for me at a fair number of places and I have no idea why.  Nice work Jordan!

How is the bank access for bank fishing? I want to take my 8yr old out but don't want to contend with high grass on bank.

Charles, the bank fishing is very accessible, the grass is not too high at all.  I fished from the bank exclusively and the 9 year old I was with had no issues.  You do have to get your casts out past the weed line which runs 5-10 feet from the bank in most spots.

One thing to look out for, there are two fingers in the lake where the club boat is, at the end of the finger closest to the road (and house), there are two deep holes so be careful as you walk along the end of that finger.  It is worth going out to the end there though, I caught a fish every cast for awhile out there ๐Ÿ˜€
