Fished Travis Lake – had a slow day, but found fish.
- Water was a warm 90, 1 foot vis, wind steady from S, water was stratified at about 7 feet which is typical for a lake of that size with that visibility. Some mild snotgrass, but nothing terrible.
- Arrived at 3ish, fished till 8ish – action was slow but steady, I had several bites on a light weight TRIG in a dark plum/black and blue trick worm and same color senko – the fish were small and couldn’t quite take the entire bait. I should have probably downsized to a small shaky head or smaller hook in retrospect.
- Caught a few crappie on a jerkbait in between the dock and main lake point right in the middle. Didn’t load my garmin but I’m guess there was some structure or some brush in that location as I hooked a couple of bass but only got one in the boat from that spot.
- Caught my best fish on in the shady side of the dock.
- I fished the damn and got a couple of bites on a worm but no hookups.
- Moved to the other side of the lake and got one on a TRIG at the end of the underwater fence and again a couple of bites without hookups. Bites weren’t bluegill based on how they felt.
- Around evening, I noticed the corner where baitfish had been hemmed into a cove and several bass were busting them in about 1-2 feet of water. I caught a couple on a Pop-R in that cove along with a couple of bluegill.
- I still need to work on my low visibility fishing, but I feel like it is getting better so I’ll take it as a win.
- Jon boat is great and easy to launch without hurting the bottom of it from that area. There is also a tree to park in shade which was nice. Property is easy to get in and out of and the lake would be easy to bank fish from. Very few locations you couldn’t get to and cast to walking.
- I did see an otter moving through the lake, picture attached as best I could take one.
