Reservation Number : 29358
Property Name : Nix Ranch: Lake TCU
Reservation Date : 08/01/2021 All Day -
Total Fish/Sizes : 50+, most 2-4 lbs, 5 culls
Lures Used : Frog, wacky, fluke, chatterbait, TR trick worm

Fished with member Glen Armstrong and we caught 50 at least (lost count) before noon. Most fish were around the islands and on the east shore (tight to the shoreline). Frogs productive early (10-12 fish), then flukes, wacky, and chatterbait once the topwater action subsided. White was the most productive color.

After a midmorning break (about 10), the bite slowed and we worked the hot spots from earlier in the day (islands and east shore). Before the break, Glen broke off his line with magnum baby bass fluke. He retied at the break.

While chugging to the smallest island with my TR white trick worm trailing the boat 5-6 feet behind, I would have sworn the line got snagged by the trolling motor. I grabbed the rod on my lap as a looked and a 3-4 lb bass had hit the trick worm on top of the water. "Wow", I thought and probably said, these fish are really turned on. While removing the trick worm hook, I found Glen's lost magnum fluke embedded with it's hook in the fish's throat. Both hooks removed successfully and the fish was returned healthy after eating two lures, two hours apart, neither of which was presented in an angling maneuver. Gotta love dumb fish!!

Had a blast fishing with Glen on our first trip together. I lost count of our doubles at about 6 or 7 throughout the morning.

Dub came and said hi. What a great land owner!!

Another quality day provided by PWF. Thanks to all!!

If someone asked me – where would you take a client to catch fish guaranteed, it would be TCU – good fish, aggressive – glad you had an awesome day!

Thanks Brad for the report and congrats on a fun day! Is the boat in your photo the club boat or one you were able to launch? I have never fished TCU because the description mentions a drop off on the bank.  Therefore, I am curious if you took your own boat and had any issue launching from a trailer.

I would also be curious to hear experiences from others who might read this and have fished TCU.  I have a mini pontoon which can be difficult to launch from certain banks, but this property has been high on my list for a while now.

Thanks in advance, and, again, congrats on a great day on the water.

Stephen,

It's my boat, a predator 103. I have launched it and my previous alumacraft XL (14.5 feet) with relative ease here. It's a steep grade, but not an especially deep drop for the trailer.

For reference, the Predator weighs 250-300 lbs and my alumacraft was probably 500-550. Never a problem in 5-6 trips.

Hope that helps.

Thanks, Brad. That is definitely helpful information. I appreciate your response.
