Reservation Number : 29029
Property Name : Kickapoo Lake
Reservation Date : 06/26/2021 All Day -
Total Fish/Sizes : 26 up to 3.4 lbs, 1 bluegill
Lures Used : senko/spook/buzzbait

Water temp was about 87, visibility around 6ft, steady wind (which was a lifesaver on giving me some cover with the clear water), mostly sunny with some clouds –  fished the two main lake points and the dam mostly from 8am-1:15pm, dam was most productive and seemed to have the better fish.  The first lake point to the left had smaller fish, and the secondary point in the middle right had good fish.  Most fish were caught on the top and down to 4-7 feet down on the weedlines. Tried to fish the end of the horseshoes and got nothing.

Only about 20 miles from my home lake, I got to fish Kickapoo for the first time this morning.  Disasterous start – left the battery for the trolling motor and circled back just making the exit to HW80 – but when I did, they shut 635 to one lane going west, then going back, shut it down going east, so despite waking at 4:45am, and planning to be on the water by 6am, I didn’t get to the lake till 8am.

Fished stickbaits at first and caught almost all culls.  So I switched to a super spook and started to get better bites. All the fish in that class were really aggressive, so I thought, let’s try the magnum – and it worked out well – and caught a number of bass on it (a couple of which were the size of the lure)  I rotated between the magnum spook (pictures), a jerkbait, and a buzzbait when I worked inside weedline.   Pictures attached of some of the better fish.   Most of the fish were 1-2lbs, but got some decent ones in there.

I tried to punch the weeds, and while my technique seemed sound, I got nothing out of it. I need to continue to work on it.  Not sure if I’m just not feeling the bite or if I’m doing it wrong.

Caught one medium bluegill on a jerkbait – fit the theme of the fish acting well out of their weight class.

I forgot to tie in the title to something meaningful in the post – there were a number of fishing jumping clear out of the water chasing baitfish – some of them got a good 6 inches out of the water.

The only report I think I didn’t post was when I fished signal and fell in the water and had to leave early! haha it was cold and I was slightly embarassed.  Otherwise, I feel like it is part of our duty – we are guests at these lakes and the owners deserve to know what is going on.
