Took advantage of the summer cold front and hit Malouf around 8:45am and fished to 3pm. Quite refreshing to be fishing in 70 degree temps even if only for a day. Wind was relatively calm, 5 – 10mph. Water temp started at 81 rising to 85. The lake is in good shape although heavy vegetation exists along the shorelines all the way out to 50+ feet in some instances. As such, I spent most of my day avoiding the heavy weeds and instead fishing the deeper water, including along the outside edges of the heavy weed lines. Landed 17 LMB with the largest three going over 3lbs. Soft plastics worked best punching through the vegetation although you will need heavy braid as the fish prefer to then bury themselves in the grass. Topwater bite was non-existent, might be because of my late start but very tempting to throw a frog across all the vegetation. Reaction baits work to some extent assuming you aren’t cleaning off grass from the treble hooks. Overall, a fun relaxing day at Malouf!
