We had a late start and didn't get in the water until 8 AM. From the boat ramp, we made a clockwise rotation around the lake. I had a gurgling deer hair frog tied on, and Tom was fishing a baby bass, rabbit strip steamer olive and white. Within the first one hundred yards, I hooked up on a nice little 3 pounder, so I took that as a good sign. I was wrong. We circled the lake watching bass school all around us, busting the surface. I assumed there are some easy pickings, and we threw everything we had them. They would only chase or spit our flies. There must have been thousands of bass under 9 inches long along the dam. After two hours, we were done. The heat and humidity were unbearable, and we were off the lake by 10 AM.  

This is a fantastic lake that we came to fly fish, and I’m sure if we went deep and been there at sun up, the story would be much different.
