Let me start by saying I fished this lake with a member on April 11th, and again with another member yesterday, April 25th.  On the 11th the water was fairly clear, maybe 2 foot visibility, but the owner mentioned he had fertilized the lake a few days before and it was normally even more clear.

Yesterday was a different story.  The water was a rich green color, but not clear at all, with 4” to 6” visibility.  Not muddy, not chalky, not tea-stained, not clear, just thick green like pea soup.  I saw the owner again and I commented on the water color, and he said he had fertilized the lake (presumably referring to same fertilization he’d already told me about two weeks ago).  Apparently the effects of fertilization was just getting started two weeks ago and were in full swing yesterday.  We threw flukes, senkos, cuttail senkos, swim jigs, chatterbaits, keitech swim baits with underspin, whopper-ploppers, sizmic toads, rattletraps, most everything except the budweiser beer can crankbait.  Only managed 7 fish: 5 culls, two over slot to 2 lbs, mainly on senkos.  Lost another handful of fish.

I would say it was only 3” of visibility. We were lucky to hit a few on the head. Beautiful place other than this.

Possibly an algae bloom underway.
