Ron Dupree and I decided on Thursday morning that we would go fishing that afternoon, despite threatening weather forecasts.  We were still smarting from a recent tournament on a large public lake in which 23 of 26 experienced anglers (us included) failed to land a scoreable bass.  We arrived at Rock Chimney at 12:30 to a stiff breeze and threatening skies.  The rain held off but the bass were hiding.  It took quite a while, but we finally found that easily spookable bass were sitting within 5 feet of the north shore which required a lot of casting into the wind. We ended up having a great time catching 60 bass (10” – 20”) and two huge catfish (7-9# each).  Most of the bass were about 1.5# but enough 3# ers were mixed in to make it fun.  Ron boated the largest bass (almost 5#) and the most bass.  Dropshot and lipless crankbaits were the key lures.  Nearby lightning finally chased us off the water around 5:45. We had nice visits with Mr. Stanley and his son.
