We threw a little from the bank at around 7:30 am, which yielded a small bass, and then set out on the boat to try the brush piles, which yeilded a nice Crappie. We fished around the dam most of the rest of the morning. You know you’re going to have a good day when you land nearly an 8 pounder about 3 casts in after entering an area and just a couple casts later, we doubled with nearly a 9 and about a 5 on the same cast! These were some of the healthiest bass I’ve ever seen in a plankton filled, nicely stained water with beautiful scenery all around. We wore them out around the dam on chatterbaits until around 10:30 or so when the bite subsided – most were in the 4½ lb range. The wind made it difficult to fish other areas of the lake and the bite seemed rather random. However, fish were still caught, including up to about 10 Crappie. One was about 2lbs. Fish were caught on spinner baits, a green pumkin lizard, and chatter baits. We think we landed about 30 or so all together. Although the bite subsided after lunch, there were still some very nice bass caught in the afternoon. It was work trying to stay in one spot with the gusty winds moving our 10’ bass raider around but when they’re biting at Tara, it’s like a dream, only better. What a lake. What a treat!

Thanks Mark for taking me! It couldn’t have started any better, Mark called that double before we went – 2 fish over 10 combined and we got about 14. These bass are HEAVY. What looked like it should be a 3 pounder would go over 4, so chunky!
