Fished Black Hat with buddy and fellow member Brett Stalcup.  I haven’t been on this lake in about 5 years and now I’m kicking myself that I haven’t fished this place more often.  Really pretty place and pretty lake.  Water clarity was good but wind was blowing so fun with fly rods all day… I caught a nice cull bass with a deer hair popper about 7 and then nada until I stumbled over a crappie hole about 4 and no more bass until about 5 (right when Bass Forecast said) .   Brett is pretty new to fly fishing and landed his biggest bass to date maybe 4 +/- pounds about 11.  It was a challenging morning – between the two of us we had 3 bass until 4 p.m.  At 5 the lake turned on and it was a blast.  Except for the early morning bass caught right by the ramp we caught all our bass either off big point accross the lake from the launch or back in the shallows by and around the islands.  All the island bass were caught off top water poppers or deer hair poppers and the bass off the point came off black wooly buggers – most of the crappie were caught in the middle of the lake with clousers.  Pretty day despite the wind and regretting I haven’t fished this place more over the years.
