We arrived at lake at sunrise and were greeted by fog rolling off the glassy surface. Before launching boat, we landed a LMB on a topwater popper while standing on the boat launch – a good sign. For the next couple of hours we landed fish on the popper and soft plastics while working the banks (east was more productive than west). The wind was still light. However, around 9:30 the wind started picking up and pushing us around quite a bit. We still had some success around the dam (lost a couple who threw the hook close to the boat otherwise our fish count would be higher) and in the sticks but the strong wind and the leaking boat kept us more busy with positioning and bailing than we would have preferred. No pigs but solid action and beautiful morning.
Note: As someone mentioned, the club boat is leaking. It’s about a pencil lead size stream from the starboard / stern corner near a weld. If you lean starboard, the water will stream more quickly as it must be just at or slightly below the water line. If someone would bring out some flex seal next time they plan to fish Malouf, I bet this would fix it. If not, bring a cup or something to bail as it won’t sink the boat but whoever is sitting at the stern will get wet feet and gear.
