Took my 11-yr old son out to Six-O last Saturday. We got there between 9:30 and 10 AM. As mentioned by member Robert Lundin, this was a great place for my son to catch Bluegill. He caught 6 in the first 15 minutes. Three of them were absolute slabs and biggest either of us have caught in our lives. We finally got the boat loaded and on the water around 10:40ish. The boat is great. It has 2 bass boat seats and a bench seat in the back. Plenty of room. So we missed the morning bite. We get out on the lake and head directly across from the boat house. Using the Deeper Chirp and Fish Deeper app, I started scanning the lake. We found fish at a variety of depths and mostly around trees. It wasn’t until we went to the farthest creek to the right that we caught the first bass on a T-Rigged Berkley Powerbait Pit Boss in Skeet’s Hot Craw color. It was between 1 and 2 pounds based on the look. Didn’t feel the need to weight it. We kept getting hung up in the trees with the lures. So we got out of that creek. Only go there if you are skilled at using the boat and have a good set of eyes up front looking for underwater trees. The other two creeks were easier to navigate, but didn’t produce any fish. So we headed to the big dam based on recomendation. Kept finding fish either at the very bottom or within 10 to 12 feet of water, with temps in the low to mid 60’s. It looks like the bass are staging up getting ready to head shallow for spawning. There were no beds visible and the water was pretty clear when you got to 4 ft or less. With no bass action we headed back to the nice covered boat dock to get out of the sun and have more fun with the Bluegill. Based on Robert’s recommendation, I set my son up with a size 8 Mosquito Hook and bread. Worked like a charm. They catch on after you catch a few. So giving them a break is a good idea. We head back out and I stick to the banks to the right of the boat dock, heading back towards the creeks. There is a big group of trees not to far up and they seemed loaded with fish based on the scans i was getting. We just could not pull them out no matter what we threw. Just passed the trees, I picked up my second bass at 2 lbs, on a T-rigged Bass Pro Stik-O Tournament size in Black with Blue Fleck. Barely felt him hit it. Then it was hours of getting lures in trees. Looking for fish and failing to catch them. We could not figure out what they wanted and we thew everything but a jig. So it was frustrating at times. The saving grace was that my son had a ton of fun catching the 11 bluegill and riding in the awesome pontoon boat. This property is very easy to get to, very open, less grass as compared to other properties I have fished. It’s huge and we didn’t graph the middle. It showed a lot of fish, but it wasn’t really our day for bass. I will go back and try again. It’s like the video says, every where you look there is a target that looks like it’s holding your next PB. We left around 7:40 PM and I was racing the sun going down. So I forgot to fill out the survey. No fish were removed from this trip. I should have also listened to Robert’s recommendation of taking the Chisolm Trail Tollway. It took 4 hours to get home due to construction and an accident shorly after.
