I enjoyed another fun afternoon of catching bass on 3/20 at Rock Chimney.  While the lake is still low, water visibility is good (slight staining as always) and algal growth is very minimal.  Fishing under bluebird skies and light, variable winds, I enjoyed consistent action all afternoon with very few slow periods.  Fishing from the boat worked better than from the bank. I found most of the bass in 2 feet of water in the shallow end of the lake and the remainder in about 5 feet of water between the old boat dock and the gravel point across the lake.  While this trip yielded mostly 1 lb bass, a half dozen weighed in between 2 and 3.5 lbs.  My big fish of the day was a 6.5-7 lb blue catfish that slammed a chatterbait. There was never any  chasing activity visible, yet a chatterbait yielded 10 of my total.  The rest were on a TX-rigged black craw or a weightless wacky worm (Blue Craw).  Many of the “strikes” were the “pick up and run” variety where you saw the line moving before you felt anything. I enjoyed watching the wildlife and had a nice conversation with Mr. Stanley where he told me that the lake had frozen over briefly during the recent deep freeze.
