Fingerling
While I love the solitude of the private water experience, I had the greatest of company from the very beginning. The deer were on both sides of the road as I arrived and they seemed curious about me. But eventually they put on their jumping show as they crossed two fences right in front of me. Then, as I reached the water’s edge, two geese let me know that I was intruding, just as 4 more were approaching the lake. They disappeared, but they returned later in the day. A bald eagle flew over me as the skies cleared for a few minutes. But the show-stopper was the otter. I had seen the beaver lodge at midlake, but the otter was coming over the dam. He checked me out thoroughly, even showing me his shoulders while he took in a more comprehensive view.
In addition to the wild company I kept, I managed to boat 27 up to five pounds. Most were culls, but three nice ones made up for their skinny friends.
The water was much clearer than I expected and the fish were vividly colored.
Not a bad intro to Oklahoma fishing!
