Reservation Number : 27330
Property Name : Malouf Lake
Reservation Date : 03/07/2021 PM -
Total Fish/Sizes : 21 (1-3 lbs)
Lures Used : White/Char spinner, Silver Chatter w/silver trailer, Red Crawl Sq Bill

Buddy of mine and I went out to Malouf Lake, first time at this lake, and it was a beautiful day.  Wind made us work for it, but we didn’t care, we were just glad to get back out on the water and wet our lines.

We always try at the launch area before putting the boat in and we caught one about 2 lbs almost immediately on the white/chart spinner with gold leaf.  Got the boat in and headed for calm waters all the way to the far right of the launch area.  Worked the points, shallows, and drop offs for a while and picked up a couple on the aforementioned spinner and I was using a silver/gray chatter bait with silver/glittery trailer (basically a shortened swim senko as the trailer).  The chatter was working in the shallow and the spinner was working better in deeper water.

We moved around the shore on the opposite side of the lake from the launch and worked our way back towards the damn closer to the launch area.  Hitting points and shallows along the way picking up a few more.  Same baits as before.

Tried TX rig with bright color senkos here and there and a few other baits, but nothing else seemed to work.  Got closer to the damn and I switched to the red crawl square bill (2-4 feet depth) and hit almost immediately.  Ended up catching about 8 total on this bait between the pipe in the damn and I think the East end of the lake.  Basically between the pipe and the opposite end of the lake from the launch, along the damn (hope that makes sense).

There is a large group of trees kind of the middle of the lake.  We tied up there and fished 360 degrees for a while, but landed nothing.

Fish turned off around 5 and we packed it up.  Caught 21 total all between 1-3 pounds from about 12:30 – 5.  Couple of long and skinnys, but the 3’s we caught were starting to get their belly.

Lake is awesome, launch is really good and easy for your own boat.

PWF boat is a bit short, especially when your friend is 6’3 and wears a 13 size shoe.  We both damn near went in a few times trying to stand up or move around.  John boat also has a leak in it.  Nothing serious, but makes it a bit slippery when standing.  We scooped water a few times (maybe 3 total water bottles full) and that helped a lot.

Definitely a repeater…

Hey Ben,

It’s Paul Prosser – Sheridan’s dad.  I was aware you joined awhile back.  I meant to reach out before today, but I’m glad you are enjoying the club and getting out to fish.  And the fishing reports are extremely helpful to fellow members. There are some awesome lakes just waiting for you! Let’s hook up sometime…I’m rehabbing a shoulder replacement but should be good to go in a couple months…that is, if you don’t mind fishing with a fly guy.
