Fished Sunday AM 8/23 with member David Wilcox. We were on the water by 7AM using the two-man boat supplied. David fished conventional and I fished fly. Weather was pleasant with very little breeze and calm water. Worked our way around the lake from the put-in counterclockwise…spent some time on the banks of the berm at the south end, casting from 30-50 feet out toward the bank. David caught 1 or 2 dinks (10-12 in) and I caught a big, fat bluegill on a black woolly. bugger variation.
We moved to the north end of the lake to fish some points and undercut banks. We were in the shade and the water was (almost) glassy. David had his best luck here fishing jigs and crankbaits…I got some hits on various poppers but no catches. We saw bait crashing the surface and fished those with some baitfish patterns…David caught some cull-types but I struck out. Dave also caught some mean bluegill/bream from the dock on jigging drop-shots.
By 11am the wind had picked up and old sun was crankin' We were off the lake shortly after. Gotta watch for the grass/salad bar if you're trolling, but if you can stay clear and fish the edges weedless you will find fish. This is a nice property once you navigate through two gates…Easy to get to off I75…I'll definitely go back in the fall and see how it fishes then.
Total caught: 8 bass all 10-14 inches with one probably 3 pounds…1 fat bluegill (they're so much fun to catch).
