Ron Dupree and I got on the water at Bennett lake on Sunday around 7:45 AM under totally cloudy skies and a flat calm.  After a pretty disappointing topwater session (2 bass), we headed to deeper water.  We started to see bass chasing baitfish to the surface and exploding on them.  Calm water made the bass easy to see and we could tell the difference between a single bass blowup and the more common multi-bass blowups, even though they were all very short-lived (5 seconds - 20 seconds).  Chasing these down with a trolling motor is usually an exercise in futility but we were able to put ourselves in the general vicinity of recent action and wait for a new blowup within casting distance while we fished using other techniques.  When one happened within casting distance, we dropped our rods and grabbed rods rigged with jerkbaits or wakebaits and aimed for the commotion.  While often a failure, we connected enough times with small bass (11-12") and several times with 2# bass to be fun.  This technique probably accounted for 10-12 of our 47 bass for the day.  Most of the other bass (1-3# with a couple pushing 4#) were caught on shakey-head or wacky worms or crankbaits all over the lake. After sitting out an early afternoon shower, a slight breeze finally started and we fished with distant thunder for a while (we are very cautious about lightning) until it seemed likely that the next storm wasn't going to miss.  We were off the water, packed up, and on the road before it hit.  Overall a fun day even though we didn't catch any big ones.
